At Bank Chambers Dental Practice, we only recommend tooth extraction if all other options to save a tooth have been tried.
Tooth extraction is, simply put, the removal of a tooth from the mouth. There are two types of tooth extraction: simple and surgical.
A simple extraction involves gently removing the tooth from its socket and is done when the tooth is visible above the gum line. In situations where a tooth is broken, or impacted – i.e., buried beneath the gum line – then a surgical extraction is necessary.
We may recommend a tooth extraction because a tooth is broken, decayed, or damaged beyond repair. Other reasons for extraction include infected or impacted wisdom teeth, overcrowding, or a loose tooth that cannot be restored.
