At Bank Chambers Dental Practice, our dentists can provide comfortable root canal treatment to help save a tooth from infection of the dental nerve. We’re also able to provide re-root canal treatments in cases where the initial root canal treatment has not been successful.
We might recommend a root canal treatment if you have a tooth that has become infected or inflamed in the dental nerve or dental pulp. This is usually a result of advanced decay, but is sometimes also caused by injury or trauma to the face, or a leaky filling. If left untreated, the infection can spread leading to an abscess, discolouration of the tooth, and eventually, the death of the tooth. This in turn can lead to the need for extraction and a tooth replacement.
Some of the most commonly experienced symptoms of patients needing a root canal treatment are:
If you are experiencing any of the symptoms mentioned above, we will be able to diagnose the issue here at Bank Chambers Dental Practice and recommend whether a root canal treatment is necessary or not.
Most root canal treatments can take place during just one appointment, although it can take two or more to fully treat and restore the tooth.
First, we’ll numb the area being treated with a local anaesthetic, so that you are comfortable and relaxed throughout the treatment. Then, we’ll clean the area and treat the infection. At this point, a rubber-type material is used to fill in the tooth which will restore the tooth and help prevent reinfection.
In some cases, we may also need to place a crown after performing the root canal treatment. This is dependent on the damage to the natural tooth, and will be determined on a patient-by-patient basis.
