At Bank Chambers Dental Practice, our focus on preventive care means we always do everything we can to help prevent the need for intervention treatments. In some cases, a treatment such as a filling is necessary for the continued good health of your tooth and overall oral wellbeing.
Fillings are a commonly used dental treatment designed to help repair a tooth that has become damaged in some way. They are used to fill in a gap, also sometimes referred to as a cavity or carie, and restore the tooth to full function again.
There are many different reasons why a cavity or carie may have formed in your tooth. Untreated decay, injury, and simple wear and tear can all cause a cavity to develop in teeth. This is why regular check-ups and examinations with us here at Bank Chambers Dental Practice are so important – so we can regularly assess your teeth and oral health and help prevent the need for treatments such as fillings in the future.
We will diagnose your need for a filling here at Bank Chambers Dental Practice. We may do this at a routine check-up, or you might come into the practice presenting with symptoms such as:
Fillings are made of a variety of materials, and our knowledgeable team here at Bank Chambers Dental Practice will always make sure we talk through all options available to you during a consultation. Some of the most popular filling materials include metal amalgam and composite resin (commonly known as white fillings).
Fillings can usually be placed over just one appointment. This is a fairly routine treatment, and we can apply a local anaesthetic so you’re comfortable and relaxed throughout. To begin, we’ll gently remove any decayed or infected parts of the tooth before thoroughly cleaning the area. Then we’ll apply filling material and shape it to the tooth before cementing or hardening it into place.
We’ll always make sure you’re being treated in the most suitable way possible, but there are some situations where a filling might not be appropriate. In such cases, we might recommend an inlay or onlay or a crown as a way to repair and restore your tooth instead.
